- While specific industries will see demand through this pandemic it does not equate to increased investment as consumers are seeking cost savings and businesses need to reduce costs.
- How will industries fare in the recovery period? Can 2021 be business as normal?
Short Term COVID-19 Impact on the Creative and Marketing Workforce
The staffing industry and workforce across all sectors and industries are not immune to the impact of COVID-19. This health crisis has put many businesses into hibernation which directly impacts the workforce. The short term is defined as the peak period of the coronavirus spreading. In this peak period, many businesses that are not hibernating are trying to operate on a remote basis. According to the Staffing Industry Analyst, “It is difficult to accurately predict how long this peak will last but it seems likely to fall somewhere between two to six months, hopefully, shorter.”
Within the SIA assessment regarding the health of temporary and direct hire staffing services, the Marketing, Creative, and IT Staffing industry was reported to be moderately negatively impacted by COVID-19. The five-point scale ranged from a very negative impact, moderate negative impact, no impact, moderate positive impact, and very positive impact. There were no staffing industries that fell within the no impact rating or the very positive impact rating. The best assessment came from healthcare staffing while the worst came from clerical, industrial, and engineering/design.
Long Term COVID-19 Impact on the Creative and Marketing Workforce
While we all want answers, we are learning together one day at a time. Predictions share that as the recovery period begins after the peak is over, industry segments will fare differently. Staffing Industry Analyst share, “While we might hope that all segments will benefit to some extent, it is likely that the crisis will prove to have fundamentally undermined some business models in the long-term and provided a strong tailwind to others. Whatever business looks like in 2021, it is not likely to look like ‘business as usual.”
