Your boss is getting on your nerves. The company you work for is talking about layoffs (again). Your interest in your current job is gone and it is time for a change. Whatever your reason, you want to change the name of the company on your on pay check. So, what next? Here are four steps that may help you land your next job!
Step one– Revise your resume. Make sure you have your most recent work and accomplishments highlighted in your most current role. This is what will get you to the next step of a call or interview.
Step two- Develop your personal elevator pitch. This is a short “sales” pitch about who you are and why I would want to hire you. It is used to talk to people you network with, recruiters you may talk to or potential new employers that interview you.
Step three- Make a list of work-related skills you’d like to learn. Your employer will be interested in hearing about how you intend to become a better employee. Think about which skills will make you more competent in the position you’re applying for.
Step four- Research. Research what kind of companies will make you happy to work for and target those companies for interviews. Once you have the interview, research the person you are interviewing with and know the company and the competitive landscape they play in.
